The government has proposed a world-first scheme where farmers will be required to pay for their emissions from 2025. Cabinet is set to sign off on the programme next year bringing to an end a 2 decade long battle. And while some farmers say it might put them out of business, some environmental advocates say the scheme does not go far enough. So were is the balance point?
